Garry Brownrigg, Beeleever, Founder & CEO at QuickSilk, a Content Management System (CMS) software platform, tells us more about his company and his own entrepreneurship journey.


What is QuickSilk?

QuickSilk is software that quickly and easily builds beautiful, responsive websites. It’s very secure, standards based and delivered as a service (SaaS). We have two types of customers, small to medium sized businesses (SME) and website designers and developers who build websites for them. The problems SMEs face are the high costs to build a website, high ongoing maintenance costs and the length of time it takes to get the site live. 

SMEs love QuickSilk because we have a simple, intuitive drag and drop system that allows non-technical people (marketing staff etc.) to build high calibre websites about 90% faster than traditional tools with ongoing maintenance costs of about 75% less. Not surprisingly, web designers and developers love QuickSilk for the same reasons. 

 

As an entrepreneur, why is today essential to develop and update your website? 

Most people rely on the internet to deliver news, entertainment, find information and buy things. For SMEs that means most customers are going to “experience” their company digitally before going in person. It is critical for SMEs to make sure their websites work on any device (responsive), have current content and are easy to navigate. Using traditional tools, updating a website involves writing code. This means most companies overhaul their site every few years. This puts them at a disadvantage to companies using QuickSilk as they can make changes in minutes; add video, images, manage social media and so on without installing any software or writing any code. 

 

What is the biggest obstacle you’ve faced as an entrepreneur and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge I’ve faced is familiar to all entrepreneurs; raising capital. Finding people who share your vision and believe in your product as much as you do is hard. And they must believe in you, your product and your future before they’ll invest in you. QuickSilk overcame this by raising money through family and friends to begin with. This seed money allowed us to develop the software to a point where we could confidently go looking for venture capital.  

 


Can you give 3 or 4 pieces of advice for our Beeleevers?

I’ve heard people say that “adversity develops character”. That may be the case sometimes, but what is absolutely true is that “adversity reveals character”. Any goal worth achieving will take time and effort. So, the most important piece of advice I can pass along is this; “Never Give Up…. except in the case of common sense, conscious or honour”. Entrepreneurs must have vision. They must believe in themselves and their dreams in the face of adversity, setbacks and disappointment. Only those who truly believe in their vision will be successful.
